Specialties
EAN (Nitrox)
Longer Bottom Time
Less nitrogen allows extended dives and shorter surface intervals.
Ideal for Repetitive Dives
Perfect for multi-dive days with improved efficiency and comfort.
Essential Safety Skills
Learn tank analysis, labeling, and proper dive computer settings.
International Certification
Required to obtain nitrox tank fills and dive safely with enriched air worldwide.
Enriched Air Nitrox (EANx) contains less nitrogen than regular air, allowing you to enjoy longer bottom times and shorter surface intervals. It’s no surprise that the Enriched Air Diver certification is the most popular PADI® specialty.
Being Nitrox certified means you have completed the required training to safely use enriched air mixtures (typically 32% or 36% oxygen) during your dives. The reduced nitrogen content limits nitrogen absorption, making nitrox ideal for repetitive diving and extending overall dive time.
During the course, divers learn how to analyze and label nitrox cylinders, adjust their dive computers for enriched air use, and understand the benefits and risks of nitrox — including the importance of managing oxygen exposure to avoid oxygen toxicity. Certification is required to safely dive with nitrox and to obtain enriched-air tank fills.
